    Skye

    One of the Florida Manta Project’s favorite manta rays. We first found Skye in the summer of 2020 and have seen him many times since. In July 2021 we attached a satellite tag to track his movements — data that provides crucial migratory information about Florida manta rays.

  • Cassiopeia the manta ray

    Cassiopeia

    Named because the spot pattern on his belly resembles the constellation. Cassiopeia is one of our friendliest mantas, always swimming over to check us out.

  • Casper the manta ray

    Casper

    A juvenile male we first observed in the summer of 2021. Casper’s belly lacks spots and is as white as a ghost — but a single black spot on his mouth lets us identify him.

  • Valentina the manta ray

    Valentina

    A female manta ray we first observed in the summer of 2021. Her name comes from the heart-shaped spot pattern on her belly.

  • Nemo the manta ray

    Nemo

    A juvenile male named after Finding Nemo — he has a missing right cephalic fin. We first saw Nemo in September 2021, and he carries a single small black spot on his belly.

What have we achieved recently?

  • A potential manta nursery discovered: the Florida Manta Project found a rare juvenile manta habitat off south Florida, and documented the boat strikes, fishing line, and other threats these rays face.
  • Satellite tracking: we tag Florida mantas to reveal their migrations — the data that protection depends on.
  • Angler outreach: we published the first study of recreational anglers' knowledge of and attitudes toward manta ray conservation.

What do you spend the contributions on?

We are a small team of multi-tasking conservationists, scientists, and educators. Your support funds pioneering fieldwork, community work to safeguard manta ray populations, and training for the next generation of conservationists. You'll receive our quarterly magazine with updates on the work.

How does it work?

When you click ADOPT NOW, the form asks for your details, which manta you'd like to adopt (leave it blank and we'll choose one) and the adoptee's name for the certificate. Within five days, our team will send your personalized e-certificate — and you'll receive an email each time your manta is seen.

How long does it take to receive my certificate?

Your personalized certificate and adoption link will be emailed within five days of completing your purchase.
