Ocean conservation seems to have a shrinking timeline. But the faster we act, the greater positive impact we can have on our earth’s uncertain future. One of the easiest ways to get involved can be as simple as downloading an app! We’ve done a round-up of the best ocean conservation apps, downloadable for both iPhone and Android.

GOOD FISH GUIDE (UK ONLY)

This is a fantastic app created by the Marine Conservation Society. The app tracks the seafood which is eaten within the UK, and advises which fish are the best sustainable choices, which fish you should avoid completely and which fish you can eat occasionally to limit pressure on their stocks.

SEAFOOD WATCH PROGRAM  (US ONLY)

This is an app run by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, based in California. It helps consumers and businesses choose seafood that’s fished or farmed using sustainable methods. They use a widely recognized and respected science-based recommendation system, similar to the Fish Guide. They categorize the choices into ‘Best Choices’ or ‘Good Alternatives’.

For example, if we search for haddock again, the app will provide ‘recommendations’ on the source and method of fishing used for catching haddock.

SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD GUIDE AUSTRALIA

This app is similar to the others. Great interface, easy to search, and shows the sustainability of over 90 different species. It was created by the Australian Marine Conservation Society.

The only difference is that it allows you to see all of the species which are good, average and badly sourced.

MARINE DEBRIS TRACKER

This app allows users to report trash found along coastlines and in waterways. It’s easy to use, and allows you to accurately enter items of trash spotted while out in the water. It could be a game changer if you want to help clean up our oceans!
