MMF Trip FAQs

What is your COVID19 Policy?

The “new normal” of COVID19 travel has required us to make some additional provisions to our cancellation and refund policies. To put your mind to ease, hosts and operators that we have teamed up with will allow us to reschedule any trips that cancel due to COVID19 related border closures of the host country within the following year. However, to fully secure your travels against all eventualities, we strongly recommend travel insurance. Please carefully review our Terms & Conditions (Mozambique, Maldives, Raja Ampat, Tubbataha, Socorro) that outline our policies.

What Insurance should I have?

All of our expeditions take place in remote locations where nature is at its best. As such, good local medical care is scarce or not available. For this reason, we require all of our trip goers to have diving insurance that includes evacuation coverage. We also require you to have general medical insurance and strongly recommend that you have general travel insurance as well. MMF will not be able to assist in the event of flight cancellations, lost luggage, and other unfortunate circumstances. For more information, please carefully review our Terms & Conditions (Mozambique, Maldives, Raja Ampat, Tubbataha, Socorro) that outline our policies.

Do I need to be a diver?

That depends on the trip and what you hope to gain from the adventure. If you are enthusiastic about being in nature and want to learn more about megafauna conservation, then many of our trips will offer something for you. Those that at least snorkel will be able to have a glimpse of the underwater world that we are raving about. However, to fully take advantage of the diving on offer in each trip we recommend or require that you are at least a certified Advanced Open Water Diver for some trips (Mozambique, Maldives, and Socorro).

How experienced a diver should I be?

More challenging locations such as Mozambique and the southern Maldives call for Advanced dive certification, a reasonable level of diving experience (90+ logged dives), current diving experience, and you’ll preferably have been diving recently. That will help you have the best experience at these dive sites, which include deeper sites and current dives. If you have less experience but are determined to come, you’re welcome to talk to us about it to help suggest which trip is more suited to your experience level and the best preparation for you.

Are kids allowed to join these trips?

We love reaching out to the next generation of conservationists! Having said that, some locations will require a more experienced level of diving that younger divers won’t yet have. For this reason, we generally prefer all trip goers to be 16 years of age and older and accompanied by a parent or guardian; however, while COVID restrictions are in place in many countries we request all travelers are of legal age. If you are hoping to join with your family, reach out and we can advise whether a specific trip is right for this or if another one is better suited for your group.
