Virtual Reality

What’s this project about?

This collaborative project harnesses the power of virtual reality (VR) to bring the majestic underwater world into the reach of millions across the globe.

By creating immersive experiences like "Flight of the Mantas", “Komodo: A Paradise Under Pressure” and other educational programs, MMF fosters a deep connection with marine life, aiming to inspire future generations towards conservation.

Key successes to date

  • Released our first collaborative VR project in 2022 "Komodo: A Paradise Under Pressure" available to the public on Oculus.

  • Global distribution through leading aquaria of "Flight of the Mantas", in partnership with Immotion, released in 2023.

  • Utilized VR to expand Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Mozambique.

  • 2,000+ Mozambican children have experienced our VR in rural Mozambique, helping to connect coastal communities to their ocean.

It all begins with an idea.

Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Maybe you want to launch a business.

Make it stand out.

Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.

Marine Education

We use Virtual Reality to break geographical and accessibility barriers to marine education.

We deliver engaging, immersive experiences of oceanic ecosystems to classrooms and households globally, nurturing a deeper understanding and appreciation for marine life. Our content, accessible through platforms like the Oculus Store, captures imaginations, fosters awareness, and turns users into informed ocean advocates. Through VR, we're creating a global platform for marine education that inspires change.

Community Engagement

Our VR project has proved to be a powerful tool in coastal communities where we work to democratize the ocean and stimulate conversations about marine conservation.

Through the use of VR in Africa and Indonesia, we have been able to break down barriers of location and socio-economic factors, providing a virtually-real experience of marine life that most would not have access to.

These experiences instill a sense of joyful curiosity, shifting the relationship communities have with their environment from fear or indifference to active participation in conservation efforts.

Ocean Advocacy

Through our VR initiatives, we leverage cutting-edge technology to present marine conservation issues directly to key decision-makers, funders, and individuals who hold the power to effect change.

Our focus isn't limited to just raising awareness; we aim to influence policy, encourage supportive investments, and drive transformative action in marine conservation. From US Senators to local government officials, our focus is to connect politicians and policymakers to environmental issues in the places they govern or provide support.

By presenting immersive experiences, we provide these influential figures with a memorable and in-depth understanding of the problems and solutions - a potent tool for generating long-term support for marine conservation.
