Biography
Isabel grew up in Jupiter, Florida, where she discovered her passion for marine conservation from an early age. She earned a B.S. in Marine Science and a B.A. in Animal Studies from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. While there, she completed a NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Fellowship and published her ecological research on faunal diversity and abundance in the Marianas Trench (opens in a new tab).
Isabel brings a diverse portfolio of experiences to the team, having conducted fish and restoration ecology research with the Guppy Project in Trinidad and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Alabama. She has a particular interest in understanding the drivers of organismal movement, or why animals are found in certain places. This interest, combined with her experience on Florida’s reefs as a PADI DiveMaster, brought her back home to work with the Florida Manta Project. Her favorite part of working with the project (other than swimming with wild mantas) is getting to visit elementary schools to teach kids in her hometown about the megafauna in their own backyards.
