Where We Work
Three regional programs, run from our own bases in Mozambique, Florida and Bali — and a wider set of collaborations wherever whale sharks and manta rays gather.

Eastern Africa
Operational hub — Tofo and the Bazaruto Seascape, Mozambique
MMF began in Mozambique in 2003, and the Mozambican coast is still where most of our people and boats are. From that base the program now runs the length of the Western Indian Ocean, alongside the education and community work that makes the science stick.

Americas
Operational hub — Florida, USA
The Florida Manta Project studies a coastal manta population living alongside one of the most developed shorelines in the world. From that base the program reaches across the western Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, and out to the eastern Pacific with partners in Ecuador.

Indonesia
Operational hub — Nusa Penida, Bali
Manta ray research and marine debris science across Nusa Penida, Komodo and the Derawan Islands, with community programs built around the reef economies these animals support.
